Society is almost at the point were we will never have to leave our homes. The internet is our world now. Predators are everywhere and they are just as real in the virtual world as they are in the real world. But online shopping offers irresistible benefits that you will not find while shopping at the mall. Mail order shopping is a thing of the past thanks to the internet. So enjoy shopping online, but take this advice to help make most of your online shopping experience:

Do not shop from strangers. Just like anyone can drive a beat up old rusty van, anyone can set up an online shopping business. Make sure a physical address and phone number is listed. If you are skeptical then you probably should not buy anything, but at least you can call the phone number to see who answers. A phone number and address allows you to contact the online shopping business in case you have a problem with the product.

Read the fine print. Remember when you use to get excited about ordering toys off the cereal box but that excitement was followed by disappointment six weeks later because the toy was much smaller than it appeared on the box? This happens in adult life too. Read the sellers description closely. If it has words like refurbished, vintage, or close-out, take these as warning signs that the product is in less-than-mint- condition. Name-brand items with too good to be true prices could be counterfeits.

Compare apples to apples. Are you really getting the best deal? Some online shopping businesses fool bargain hunters into thinking that they are getting the best deal. But sometimes they forget to factor in the shipping and handling costs. Sometimes an online shopping business may appear to sell the cheapest products, but charge outrageous shipping and handling fees. Figure out the shopping cart total before you commit to buy.

Charge it. Pay by credit card when shopping online, your transaction will be protected under law. You have the right to dispute charges under certain circumstances and temporary withhold payment while the creditor is investigating the online shopping business. Use a gift card when shopping online if you are afraid of identity theft. This way if anyone gets a hold of your account, your personal information is concealed and their payout is limited to whatever is on the card. So only keep enough money on the card for the shopping cart total.

If the shoe does not fit, who is wearing it? Make sure you can return the item for a full refund if you are not satisfied. Find out who pays the shipping costs. Some retailers let customers return items to a local store for an exchange or refund.

You can never be too secure. Never email your financial information while shopping online. This method is highly insecure. Never shop at a place shopping you. Do not go shopping at places that solicit your business. Make sure the website you are shopping at is well secured.

Again, do not be discouraged from online shopping. Shopping malls and department stores come with their own shopping dangers. They do not seem so bad because we are accustomed to it. However, no one has ever been in physical danger from online shopping.
