You have a home business that you want to take online. You get a fancy website up with flash, scrolling text, a video, and all of the bells and whistles that you believe will create a flood of prospects for your home business.

Days go by and no prospects. Weeks go by and you might have one or two visitors, but your phone is not ringing off the hook. Now you are questioning yourself, wondering why you spent time and/or money on this website and it is not producing.

Congratulations, you just learned a lesson about online marketing for your home business.

I was this guy not too long ago. One of my mentors took the time to learn the skills, though, and I took (and am still taking) the time to learn from him. He has taught me several things to do for marketing my home business online as well as many more things not to do.

For instance, do not worry about a highly fancy website. While graphics need to look decent, tons of glitz and glamour on a website are not 100% necessary.

What you should do, though, is try to entice the visitor to your site to leave some piece of information. Name and email should suffice. Do not try to capture every piece of information under the sun. Some people will leave phone number, but many more will just make it up in an attempt to avoid the phone call.

Do not spam forums with the website in an attempt to drive traffic for your home business website. In fact, doing this will probably give people a negative impression about working with you. Instead, do learn how to market your website, increase search engine rankings, and get people to agree to allow you to send them information. You will see an increase in the number of people you will get to share your home business with.

Finally, learn how to build rapport with your website visitors. Some do this by calling them and offering something; others build an email list and send informative information to build credibility and a relationship. Do not hound this list, as this list is your lifeline in your home business. Build it, take care of it, and guard what you send to them. Enticing them with your knowledge will go further than shoving a business or product down their throats.

Remember that the goal of building online is simply a method of filling the funnel. Fill it right and it will feed you a continual stream of people to talk to. Do the wrong things and you will find yourself confused and frustrated.

Most fail at home based businesses because they simply do not know what they are doing. Brent Worley shares his tip, ideas, and experiences in his Free Successful Home Based Business Report by visiting his website at www.SuccessfulHomeBasedBusinessReport.com.
