In simple terms, to generate sales and profits, you will need to drive customers to your web site. To do this you need to gain high rankings on the popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN & Alexa. There are various methods of accomplishing this such as;
Pay per click advertising on Google. (However, I have heard this referred to as 'Google idiot tax'.)
Producing your own short documentary videos on your niche market and posting them on popular video hosting sites. YouTube, GoFish, Daylimotion, Yahoo Videos, Myspace, Stickam and Google Videos to name a few.
Produce your own Lens at Squidoo. Squidoo is unique in the social bookmarking world as they allow and encourage advertising and promotion of personal business activities. A very good resource.
Craigslist is an online classified ad site with a big focus on the San Francisco Bay area. It is free to post a classified ad here and is another good resource which should be used by affiliate marketers.
Online forums in the niche market which you are focusing on is a good way to reach and share with like minded people. Don't hard sell in this environment though, or you will risk being banned.
Becoming an expert author on your niche market and submitting articles to article directories is another great resource which should be used by the affiliate marketer. Ezine Articles, GoArticles, Article City and Article Dashboard are the leading article directories. They have high standards and guidelines for article submissions, but they are held in high regard and will drive traffic to your site for a long time to come.
Ebay is also an excellent way to promote your affiliate product through there online auction ads. Produce your very own EBook and sell it at auction on Ebay. They have a massive worldwide audience which you can
turn into traffic for your own site. You will have to make a good profile or 'MyWorld' page and even consider writing an Ebay guide on you niche market to help other Ebay users. This will greatly increase you credibility.
Your profile can contain links to your sales site as can the product that you are selling. Then you are likely to get traffic from your product when it is purchased, when it is on-sold by these purchasers and also from
viewers of your profile. Ebay ads are relatively inexpensive too.
Other Social bookmarking sites are also a good place for affiliate marketers to gain exposure. There are just too many of them to mention in this article and different rules as far as what you can post. It is worth mentioning here the relatively new term "MicroBlog". Sites such as Twitter, Pownce and Tumblr allow their users to post short posts with links, pictures and RSS feeds. These sites are currently getting spidered by the search engines so are definitely worth the attention of the affiliate marketer looking to drive traffic to their sales site.
All of the sites mentioned above are viewed by the popular search engines as "authority sites". The search engines consider what is being posted at these sites to be the latest and greatest and as such they are all
indexed regularly. This is of course where you want to have your greatest exposure. Catch the wave of popularity and ride it all the way to the bank!!!
I sincerely hope that someone out there finds this guide useful and maybe even interesting.
You have my best wishes in your pursuit of online success.
