Food prices keep going higher and higher. If you're looking for ways to spend less while still eating well, follow these tips.

You'll be less likely to buy things you don't need if you shop after a meal. A full tummy equals a fuller wallet.

Have a list and stick to it.

Buy generic. Most store brands are just as good as the brand names.

Save the flyers you get in your mailbox. Look for the grocery store coupons and clip them.

Buy fewer convenience foods. You pay extra for that convenience.

Bulk foods are not always cheaper. Be sure to check the unit price of a bulk item against the same product in a regular size.

If you want to get the freshest produce at the lowest price, shop at a farmer's market.

Technology is not always our friend. Watch the prices on the cash register scanner to be sure they match the real price of the item.

Imported produce costs more, so consider buying each type of produce only when it is in season.

This is not a grocery store tip but it can still save you money. Bring your lunch to work. It really can reduce your food costs.
